Six reasons to go to Vancouver Mural Festival this weekend

Time to paint the town red… and pretty much every other colour
Mural Fest
There’s a giant street party coming to Mount Pleasant this Saturday.

This year’s Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF) is in full swing!

The festival brings together artists from a variety of different backgrounds for a series of parties, speaking events, art tours, live concerts and of course, murals galore.

While the festival has been going strong for a few days, this weekend’s free street party is the main event.

Here’s what you need to know.

LIVE ART, NEW MURALS AND HIDDEN ARTWORK

You can find most of the festival’s murals from Broadway to 3rd Ave (between Main St and Quebec St). In fact, there are 40+ murals in just six short blocks, including a brand new piece by festival headliner, Faith XLVII. There will be new artwork popping up all over the neighbourhood, even in the alleyways and parking lots. VMF has partnered with Mobi Bikes to show visitors some of the biggest and best murals of our festival that you can’t reach on foot.

FREE LIVE MUSIC

This year’s VMF will feature multiple stages of live music including free performances by Hannah Georgas and The Belle Game on the street party main stage and Kimmortal and Jenny Banai on the Westward Stage. The whole event will be capped off with a ticketed concert in Jonathan Rogers Park featuring Charlotte Day Wilson and A Tribe Called Red.

LOCAL TREASURES

The VMF marketplace will be bringing peak #shoplocal vibes to the streets of Mount Pleasant for one day only. The marketplace will feature vendors, artisans, and artists curated by local lifestyle influencers, Treasures & Travels.

Murals and craft breweries have become signature elements of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. Join Vancouver Craft Beer Week at the north end of our festival to try a wide selection of beer from 10+ local breweries. There will also be a outdoor art gallery/beer garden hosted by Grolsch and a craft beer garden dedicated to the 45th anniversary of Hip Hop.

A LEGITIMATE ICE CREAM KINGDOM

Van Mural Fest will have a food truck hub dedicated to a sweet collection of ice cream and dessert vendors. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of savoury options for those who don’t like having as much fun.

A TOTAL NEIGHBOURHOOD TRANSFORMATION

In addition to the neighbourhood’s newest murals, Van Mural Fest will be bringing green spaces to two different alleyways. Each space will feature a different vibe for those who are looking to chill as well as those who are ready to dance it up.

Transformed alleyways, live art, multiple stages, markets, street dance battles, graffiti jams, skateboarding, multiple beer gardens, and of course, 30+ brand new works of public art! It’s going to be an AWESOME day in Mount Pleasant.
