Metro Vancouver has a new director for Electoral Area A, a region that includes north of the Tri-Cities, Barnston Island and the University of B.C.

Last Saturday, public health consultant Jen McCutcheon clinched the seat at the Metro table, taking 512 votes over her competitors Madison Moore (75), a graduate of Terry Fox secondary and UBC; Simon De Weerdt (28); Sun Yun Wong (18); and Elizabeth Alison Garvie (7).

The Electoral Area A director’s position, which has an annual base salary of $11,500 plus stipends and expenses to attend Metro meetings, was previously held by Justin LeBlanc, a UBC student who quit five months after he was acclaimed last September.

Metro Vancouver budgeted $80,000 to hold the byelection vote on June 15, of which the turnout was about 9%.
