Top 5 things to do this Friday in Vancouver

April 10, 2015

Get blasted: Pi Theatre launch a remount of the late Sarah Kane’s figuratively and literally explosive 1995 play Blasted at Performance Works Theatre with a preview performance tonight.

Get South African: The fifth annual Vancouver South African Film Festival kicks off tonight at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts with a 7 p.m. screening of Hear Me Move, which tells the tale of an pantsula dancer named Muzi and is basically South Africa’s answer to the film Fame.

Get rocked by Amadeus: The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra launch their annual spring festival, which this year celebrates the music of the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, by giving their musicians the night off to tonight to gather with fellow music lovers at the Orpheum Theatre for an unaccompanied screening of the Oscar-winning 1984 biopic Amadeus.

Get youthful: Vancity Theatre hosts the opening night of Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth tonight with a screening of The Prophet, an animated feature film written and directed by Roger Allers (The Lion King), featuring “chapters” from award-winning animation directors from around the world.

Get converted: Broadway across Canada’s production of the multiple Tony-winning musical The Book of Mormon, written by the South Park guys with tunes by the raunchy Avenue Q team, rolls into the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and runs until April 12.
