Top 5 things to do this Monday in Vancouver

March 30, 2015

Get some old blue eyes: Conductor Steven Reineke leads members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in “The Best is Yet to Come,” a tribute to the time-tested tunes of the late singer, actor and alleged mobster Frank Sinatra tonight at the Orpheum Theatre.

Get gooned: Pitchfork-approved pianoman Tobias Jesso Jr. returns home to Vancouver tonight at Electric Owl in support of his critically acclaimed debut release Goon. The show is sold out, but a limited amount of tickets will be sold at the door on a first come, first served basis.

Get in front of a TV: After back-to-back home losses to Colorado and Dallas, the Canucks look to avoid their longest winless skid in over two months when they kick off their final road trip of the regular season tonight against the St. Louis Blues, who have nearly clinched their own playoff spot but are just 1-2-2 in their last five games. The puck drops at 5 p.m. for a game broadcasted on Sportsnet Pacific or online at tsn1040.ca.

Get wrenched: The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society host a 6:30 p.m. screening at Vancity Theatre of ML Lincoln’s documentary Wrenched, which focusses on the legacy of the late eco-warrior and author Edward Abbey, in particular the influence of his ground-breaking novel The Monkey Wrench Gang. Capt. Paul Watson will also attend via Skype for a post-show Q&A.

Bang your head: Metalheads converge tonight for the local stop of the Decibel Magazine Tour featuring the high-decibel musical stylings of At the Gates, Converge, Pallbearer, Vallenfyrem and Auroch. Note the venue has moved from the original Commodore Ballroom across the street to Venue itself.
