Top 5 things to do this Saturday in Vancouver

Get your meds: Beloved bearded troubadour, multiple Juno winner and new father Dan Mangan has his fourth album out, Club Meds , and the first with Blacksmith bandmates.

Get your meds: Beloved bearded troubadour, multiple Juno winner and new father Dan Mangan has his fourth album out, Club Meds, and the first with Blacksmith bandmates. See how the experimental new material, which is a departure from his folksier signature sound, translates  live when Dan Mangan + Blacksmith wrap up the Canadian leg of a world tour in front of a hometown crowd tonight at the Vogue. Guest Hayden and Astral Swans open.

Get your Irish on: Longstanding B.C. favourites Spirit of the West return to the Commodore Ballroom their annual St. Paddy’s bash, a normally raucous  event that will no doubt be touched with tinge of sadness this year after the recent announcement that frontman John Mann, who has already defeated cancer, is now battling early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Get cheering: The Canucks hope to bounce back from yet another dispiriting thrashing at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup champs when they take on the lowly Toronto Maple Leafs for an afternoon tilt at Rogers Arena. Although given their track record this year of beating many of the top teams and losing to the worst, this is yet another important game even though the Leafs are only playing for either pride or a top draft pick at this point. The puck drops at 4 p.m.

Get your geek on: The quick-witted souls of the Geekenders improve troupe remount Portal 2: a black sci-fi musical comedy starring Patrice Bowler, Erin Mudry, Fairlith Harvey, Graeme Thompson and many of the usual suspects. Tonight is your last chance to see it at the Rio Theatre.

Get laughing: The unlucky in love Phil Hanley, who started his comedy career in Vancouver and has gone on to appear at Just for Laughs and John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show for Comedy Central, is back in town for two sets tonight at the Comedy Mix. Erica Sigurdson and Kevin Banner also tell a few jokes too.
