Top 5 things to do this Thursday in Vancouver

June 18, 2015

Get lionized: The North American touring production of Disney’s The Lion King  roars into town tonight for a four-week run at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Get literary: Hot Art Wet City’s popular monthly nude literary salon featuring readings by local burlesque performers, librarians, authors and others in the buff returns tonight. Host Vanity Feral is joined by guests Misty Greer, Nite Mare and Riannaconda as they read from books that were turned into movies.

Get jazzed up: The TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary with more than 1,800 artists from around the world, 300 performances and 150 free concerts at 35 indoor and outdoor venues over the course of 14 days. The Dal Richards Big Band, Jared Burrows Sextet, the Material Culture Project, and Tanga all play for free today at the downtown  Georgia Stage, while other venues across the city will host more shows.

Get your geek on: A variety of stunt performers dressed as Marvel superheroes band together at the PNE for a make-or-break quest to retrieve the Cosmic Cube before it falls in the hands of evil-doers who would use it to destroy the universe.

Get biblical: Tonight is opening night for the Arts Club Theatre Company’s production at the Granville Island Theatre of the long-running feel-good musical Godspell about Jesus and his apostles.
