Top 5 things to do this Tuesday in Vancouver

March 24, 2015

Get some of that voodoo thing: Blues legend Colin James, the latest inductee into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and a guy who probably even gets recognized on the street occasionally, plays the Orpheum tonight in support of new album Hearts on Fire.

Get cheering: Currently in second place in the Pacific Division, the Vancouver Canucks receive a visit from the soaring Winnipeg Jets tonight, who are on a five-game winning streak and desperate to secure their first playoff spot since the franchise returned home from Atlanta four years ago. Expect to see Eddie Lack back in net after Jacob Markstrom’s confidence-boosting win over the Coyotes on Sunday. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Get laughing: Comedian Chris Gaskin headlines the latest installment of the weekly Komedy at Kino which, for just five bucks, is some of the best bang for your buck you’ll find on a Tuesday night.

Catch some flamenco: Join host Kelty McKerracher and filmmaker Colin Askey for a free public screening tonight of a short film about the Downtown Eastside’s flamenco community and live performances by the Carnegie Flamencos and others at Simon Fraser’s downtown campus. .

Roam over to Mount Pleasant: Shaggy Californian singer/songwriter Jake Smith, a.k.a. the White Buffalo, plays the Biltmore Cabaret in support of new album Shadows, Greys and Evil Ways. Spencer Burtoon opens.
