Top 5 things to do this Wednesday in Vancouver

April 15, 2015

Wave a white towel: The Canucks are back in the playoffs for the first time in two years and play Game 1 on home ice tonight against the hated Calgary Flames. Hopefully the series will end up being similar to the first time the two teams met in the postseason 33 years ago. This year Vancouver went 2-2-0 against Calgary in the regular season, with the Flames picking up an extra point in the series due to an OT loss in December. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Have a little faith: After playing together on and off since 1979, San Fran heavy metal heroes Faith No More still care a lot and, in fact, even have a new album, Sol Invictus, scheduled to drop in May. Faithful fans gather tonight at the PNE tonight to hear Mike Patton and co. play old favourites and new material such as the leaked single “Superhero.” Christeene opens.

Get on the case: Alt country queen and occasional Vancouverite Neko Case returns from the wilds of rural Vermont for a homecoming concert tonight at the Vogue in support of awkwardly titled new album The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You. Alialujah Choir opens

Wise up: Simon Scott of seminal shoegaze band Slowdive brings his electronic solo act to the WISE Hall tonight as part of a lineup that also includes Portland’s Marcus Fischer and local boy Scott Morgan.

Get dicked around: Graham Percy stars as hard-boiled private eye Philip Marlowe in this ongoing Arts Club/Vertigo Theatre (Calgary) co-production Raymond Chandler’s 1940 novel Farewell, My Lovely on now at the Granville Island Theatre.
