TransLink is touting its latest ridership numbers, saying it set a new record in October.

There were 39.65 million boardings on transit last month, covering bus, SkyTrain, HandyDART, SeaBus and West Coast Express.

This number beat the stand-alone record of 39.2 million boardings that happened in February 2010 during the Winter Olympics.

The monthly number was a 9.3-per-cent increase from October 2017, measured in the number of boardings. For buses, ridership jumped 10.5 per cent with 24.45 million boardings, while on the Expo/Millennium line, ridership went up 7.7 per cent. Canada Line boardings rose 7 per cent.

In 2017, ridership was over 407 million boardings, a 5.7-per-cent increase over the year before and the largest growth of any major city in Canada and the United States, said TransLink.
