Enjoy Family Day with these five day trips from Vancouver

Many attractions are offering discounts for the long weekend
Family Day
Enjoy 50 per cent off, s'mores and an old time sugar shack at the Sea to Sky Gondola during the Family Day weekend.

It’s the Family Day long weekend, Feb. 9 to 12, and you’ve already been home with the kids for two full days, so now what?

Or maybe you don’t have kids, but have the weekend off and are considering taking the MODO BMW X1 for a spin. Here are five ideas to consider for trips easily completed in a day, with plenty of time to stop for lunch.

Sea to Sky Gondola

Feb. 10 to 12: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors will receive 50 per cent off day tickets from Saturday, Feb 10 to Monday, Feb 12. Long weekend offerings include s'mores around an outdoor bonfire and an old-fashioned Canadian sugar shack. Face painting and live music will be offered on Sunday. The last gondola ride up is at 5 p.m.

Britannia Mine Historic Site

Family Day
Britannia Mine Historic Site is offering 50 per cent off admission Monday, Feb. 12.

Feb. 12: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Receive 50 per cent off admission on Monday, Feb. 12, and go on a trip back in time to explore what was once the largest copper mine in the British Empire.

Fort Langley

Family Day
Take a trip back in time to Fort Langley, just an hour's drive from Vancouver.

Feb. 10 to 12: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visit Fort Langley for a feature presentation about First Nations resources and participate in activities such as bannock-making and ‘Ulu Maika  — a Hawaiian game meant to train warriors.

VanDusen Botanical Garden

Family Day
Enjoy two-for-one combo admission for VanDusen Botanical Garden and the Bloedel Conservatory on the Family Day long weekend.

Feb 10 to 12: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

OK, while not exactly a day trip, you can spend a full day and enjoy Family Day specials, including two-for-one combo admission for VanDusen Botanical Garden and the Bloedel Conservatory. Create a bird feeder, explore a hedge maze, spot common birds in the garden and play games indoors and examine the functions of feathers under a microscope. Then visit the Bloedel Conservatory for up-close encounters with tropical birds.

Tsawwassen Mills

Family Day
You can go shopping and get your face painted during the Family Day long weekend at at Tsawwassen Mills, which is offering free activities for kids and a free coupon book for adults.

Feb. 10 to 12: 1 to 5 p.m.

Most activities over the Family Day weekend at Tsawwassen Mills, include face painting, balloon artists, family photo booth and interactive colouring mural, are free of charge. And while you’re there, pick up a free long weekend savings booklet offering discounts for participating retailers.
