Police on Vancouver Island are hunting for a North Vancouver man wanted in a daytime bank robbery in Saanich last week.

On July 9, a suspect went to the TD bank on Beacon Avenue around 2:40 p.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller co-operated and the man escaped.

“Our frontline officers and our general investigation section responded … but unfortunately it was in the middle of the day and traffic was too heavy and we weren’t able to get a track,” said Const. Meighan de Pass, Sidney North Sannich RCMP spokeswoman.

After getting some tips from the public, and working with police in Victoria and Abbotsford, investigators quickly identified the suspect as Lucas Darryl Bradwell, a North Vancouver resident, de Pass said.

The Crown has since sworn one charge of robbery related to the incident and issued a warrant for Bradwell’s arrest. At the time, Bradwell was already wanted for a separate robbery July 2 in Abbotsford, for which he has now also been charged.

For now, investigators believe Bradwell has stayed on the Island.

Bradwell is described as standing six feet tall, weighing 185 pounds. He has short brown hair, blue eyes and a tattoo that reads “Bradwell” on his right forearm.

Anyone who knows of Bradwell’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.
