Plum closing Kitsilano clothing store

Faced with high rents and rising property taxes, local women’s fashion retailer Plum has announced it is closing its Fourth Avenue location as of Jan. 27.

The brand, which prides itself on selling and producing “quality Canadian goods,” has operated in Kitsilano for 37 years.

In an email notice to customers, Plum owners Katie O’Brien and Ed DesRoches wrote: “It was a difficult decision, but, change has always been necessary for us to stay relevant and profitable in a changing retail environment.

“The costs of providing a store in Kitsilano and on South Granville have been very challenging.”

The closure leaves behind five other locations throughout the Lower Mainland and Calgary, including one on South Granville Street.
