On Tuesday, Oct. 10, over 100 members of a First Nation community near Prince George were evacuated when a gas pipeline ruptured.

The ruptured pipeline started a massive fire, and may affect up to 700,000 FortisBC in the province.

What’s more, the fire may also affect the price of oil in Vancouver.

Dan McTeague, a Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy.com, tweeted about the incident.

He stated that both Vancouver and Victoria may see gas prices rise by 3 cents a litre by Friday. In addition he stated that, “Washington State refineries rely on Cdn Nat gas for processing oil.”

He later tweeted that Washington refineries, “are now scrambling for alternatives to power generation.”

According to GasBuddy.com right now, in the Top 10 Lowest Gas Prices, the most recent listings show 1.529 cents per litre. As such, a 3 cent increase would mean that prices would rise to 1.559 cents per litre, or nearly 1.60 cents per litre.

As of Thursday, March 22 gas prices in the province broke a previous record from 2014, when they reached $1.559 per litre.
