Vancouver gymnast Lori Fung wins the Rhythmic Gymnastic event in the sport's debut at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

After placing 23rd at the world championships the year before, her odds were boosted by the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Games but she still faced many tough competitors, including Romanian training partner Doina Staiculescu, who came in second place.

Fung retired in 1988 and is now the director of Vancouver's Club Elite Rhythmics.
