Playboy magazine's 1980 Playmate of the Year Dorothy Hoogstraten, a Coquitlam woman who went by the stage name Dorothy Stratten, is shot to death by her estranged husband and former manager Paul Snider in a murder/suicide at his Los Angeles home.

The 20-year-old aspiring actress's sensationalized death quickly inspired two films: Death of a Centerfold starring Jamie Lee Curtis as Stratten and Bruce Weitz as Snider, and Star 80 with, respectively, Mariel Hemingway and Eric Roberts.

Stratten is buried at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
