B.C. Ferries cancels sailings on several routes due to 'extreme weather'

Friday's early morning winter storm has prompted B.C. Ferries to cancel sailings on several routes.

In an "important travel advisory," B.C. Ferries details morning cancellations due to heavy wind on major and smaller routes across its service, with the status of later sailings undetermined.

  • Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay: 7 a.m., 9 a.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD
  • Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen: 7 a.m., 9 a.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD
  • Tsawwassen-Duke Point: 5:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD
  • Duke Point-Tsawwassen: 5:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD
  • Tsawwassen-Gulf Islands: all sailings before 12:30 p.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD
  • Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay: 6:15 a.m., ​8:25 a.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD
  • Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay: 6:15 a.m., ​8:25 a.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD
  • Powell River-Comox: 6:15 a.m., 8:​05 a.m. cancelled, later sailings TBD

All of the sailing cancellations, delays and revised service notices are available on the B.C. Ferries site.

B.C. Ferries is urging passengers who plan to travel with them today to check the status of their sailings as soon as possible. 

Those with reservations who do not check in and whose trips are cancelled will have their reservation fees automatically refunded.
 
"Once sailings resume, customers will be loaded beginning with those reserved on the scheduled sailing, followed by the remaining customers in the order they arrived at the terminal," according to B.C. Ferries.

If your travel plans with B.C. Ferries includes the weekend, take note that the weather may continue to affect service on Saturday and Sunday.
