The Richmond Olympic Parkrun has two special events coming up for the Christmas holiday season.

The free, 5K timed run along the middle arm of the Fraser River attracts dozens of runners/joggers/walkers to its weekly event at 9 a.m. every Saturday.

However, next week the volunteers who run Olympic Parkrun are hosting a couple of novelty events and are inviting everyone to come out and join in the fun and get a little exercise.

If you’re wanting to get ahead of the game and burn off some of that festive cheer, they’re hosting a Christmas Parkrun on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 9 a.m.

Participants are being encouraged to dress up in festive costumes or accessories for the run, with sponsor Saucony in attendance with shoes to try on and other goodies.

And on New Year’s Day, Olympic Parkrun is hosting a run to kick off 2019, but at the later starting time of 10:30 a.m., to give people a chance to wake up from the big night before.

As always, the runs start on the Middle Arm Dyke Trail, between the UBC Boathouse and the Water Drop statue.

To receive a time for your run or walk, you need to be register for your free parkrun barcode at ParkRun.ca/RichmondOlympic.
