The Vancouver International Airport is gearing up for its third annual YVR Chill Out park party on Saturday.
The day sees Larry Berg Flight Path Park, a green space along the Fraser River ideal for plane spotting, festooned with tents, decorations and a stage featuring live music.
This year, local acts Marine Drive and Trilojay will be performing. Marine Drive is an up-and-coming four-person rock band from Vancouver and Trilojay is an event band with a versatile repertoire named for its three members whose names all start with J.
Harrison Lee, a young yo-yo champion from Vancouver, will also take the stage to showcase his skills.
"There's a great lineup of entertainment. There’s just goin to be so much energy," said Kim Halowski, YVR's community relations manager.
Guests will receive their “YVR Passport” upon arrival, and can get it stamped at tents set up by the airport’s community partners for a chance to win prizes.
The day will also feature kid-friendly activities like Zumba lessons, face painting, glitter tattoos, a magician and photo booths.
The airport donates roughy $1 million every year to varaious community partners, and those partners will have booths set up at the event.
"We like to invest in the community and really show our support," Halowski said.
For the adults, there’s also a chance to win two free flights to sunny Melbourne.
Admission to the park is free and parking is available at the nearby BCIT Aerospace Campus. Free shuttle buses will also take guests to the park from Templeton Station on the Canada Line. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
