Bullets spray car, house in Port Coquitlam drive-by shooting

It’s the second shooting that occurred in the Tri-Cities over the weekend

A hole in a car window is evidence of Sunday's drive-by shooting in Port Coquitlam.

A home and car were sprayed with bullets during a drive-by shooting in the 3800 block of Ulster Street in Port Coquitlam at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night.

No one was injured during the barrage, with the damage restricted to a single property, according to Coquitlam RCMP, a fortunate outcome given how close together the homes are on the narrow street.

“This sort of gun violence is unacceptable because of the risk it does to other people and other property — that’s one of the reasons we take it so seriously,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson.

Police were called at about 8:40 p.m. and arrived on the scene in shortly after, McLaughlin said, noting that progress has been made in the case.

“We want to reassure people in the 3800 block of Ulster Street that we are working hard to solve the crime that happened near their homes,” McLaughlin said.

And although the shooting is believed to be targeted, with police familiar with the residence, police won’t say whether the incident is related to drugs or gangs.
In fact, McLaughlin said, “there is no evidence of connection to shootings in recent times.”

It’s the second shooting that occurred in the Tri-Cities over the weekend. On Friday night, a 45-year-old man was shot in the 2700-block of Sylvan Place and Riverview Crescent in Coquitlam. He later died of his injuries and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is looking into that crime.

In Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam RCMP are handling the drive-by shooting and are asking the public to come forward with information.

“The more information we have the clearer the picture we can develop,” McLaughlin said.

Anyone with information or video, is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP non-emergency number at 604-945-1550 and ask for the Investigative Support Team.
