A Burnaby anti-Trans Mountain group is helping organize a protest Tuesday afternoon that will disrupt traffic at a major intersection.

Several groups and organizations – including Burnaby’s BROKE - will gather at the intersection of Burrard and Pender from 4 to 6 p.m. as part of the global climate strike actions happening all this week.

“Local grassroots climate justice organizations are taking over the intersection in front of the Environment and Climate Change Canada Office to point out the catastrophic failure of the Canadian government to respond to the climate crisis - especially with their $4.5-billion purchase of the Trans Mountain Pipeline and Expansion Project,” said a news release. “The situation is urgent, as Trans Mountain prepares to use a massive tunnel-boring machine to force a 2.6-km tunnel through Burnaby Mountain.”

The protest coincides with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau campaigning in the Metro Vancouver area today, including a stop in Burnaby.

This protest is organized by Climate Convergence, Mountain Protectors, BROKE, 350 Vancouver, and Extinction Rebellion.
