Delta has entered into lease agreements with the Century Group on several parcels of city-owned land at the Southlands.

The deal that would see the company manage the parklands/greenspace, the community farms and market square lands at $10 each per year is part of an agreement the city had with Century when it transferred 173.6 hectares (429 acres) of the Southlands to city ownership.

A majority of the public comments received during the public consultation reiterated support for the Earthwise Society to continue operating at the site. Century recently outlined details regarding its plans for the market square, including the allotment and demonstration gardens, as well as the continued role of the Earthwise Society.

Some of the other comments received included one respondent wanting assurances everyone in Tsawwassen would be able to use the park/greenspace and not just the residents of the Southlands, while another expressed concern Delta was handing over too much control of the land to the company. Some of the other comments included a respondent wanting assurances marijuana wouldn’t be grown at the site.

Meanwhile, Delta has received the approval of the Agricultural Land Commission to have the agriculturally zoned portion of the Southlands, which has a combined area of 111.5 hectares (276 acres) included in the Agricultural Land Reserve.
