What it is about Labour Day that gives us that frisson of excitement and anticipation, even though it may have been years since we were aflutter about the first day back to school? Compared to New Years Eve, a somewhat contrived launch of new opportunities, for many of us Labour Day is the true new year. We want a new wardrobe, a new look, a new start. Theres a freshness in the air and although the nights are cooler, our thoughts of winter are still far away. Theres still a whole new fabulous season to enjoy first autumn.
On this weeks cover is Breakfast TVs Dawn Chubai, who, when shes not exploring all the things that make this city great, is also a well-known singer and entertainer in high demand as an event host. We asked Vancouver designer Chloe Angus of Chloe Designs how we can all revamp our wardrobe.
Describe the outfit youve chosen for Dawn.
Dawn is wearing our Pintuck Wrap Dress in teal with a Modern Spirit Wrap in smoke. This dress has a great neckline to show off the silver moon pendant by Haida artist Clarence Mills that we paired it with. The dress is made from ultra soft bamboo jersey and can easily take Dawn through her busy day reporting to an evening out on the town.
Why this outfit?
This outfit works well for Dawn because the pintuck detail really accentuates her waist and highlights her beautiful hourglass figure. Women with a fuller chest should try and have some definition at the waist to show shape, staying away from loose, blousy styles that can make them look bigger than they are.
What is the most common fashion mistake women make?
Wearing clothing that is either too big or too small is the most common fashion mistake. When your clothing fits properly you look polished and pulled together. If you find that you are between sizes just a small alteration can make all the difference. That is why we offer alterations (at no extra cost) as part of our service when you shop our ready-to-wear line. Our made-to-measure pieces are the ultimate fit and when your dress slides on like a glove you will be sure you are not making any mistakes.
Whats your advice for a woman who wants to refresh her fashion statement.
Most of us could use a bit more colour in our wardrobes; try and add a few pieces in the seasons hottest colours to bring your staple pieces up to date. Shoes are also an important part of refreshing your style. We send all our customers to Lords Shoes at 2932 Granville; they have a good selection of well-made shoes.
