Firefighters from Lions Bay and Britannia Beach are dealing with a blaze burning south of Porteau Cove that authorities say may have “cut off” some people.

“We’ve got...people cut off, which we’re dealing with,” said Lions Bay Fire Chief Andrew Oliver.

He could not elaborate any further on the situation, which is happening at Tunnel Point.

Lions Bay initially responded, but Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department was called in to assist.

Coastal Fire — part of the province’s wildfire service — is also being called in to help, said Oliver. Search and Rescue crews have also been asked to attend.

The fire is inaccessible and burning quite high up on a hill in that area, said Ryan Wainwright, emergency program manager at the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District.

No other details are available at the moment.
