Looks like the Lower Mainland could get an early taste of winter next week.

Environment Canada is calling for sunshine and a high of 9°C on Thursday, however, the temperature is expected to drop down to a chilly 1°C overnight. Following this, Friday is expected to see a mix of sun and cloud, with a 60 per cent chance of showers in the evening.

Saturday through Tuesday call for a chance of rain each day, but a cold weather system is expected to move into the region Monday.

“Cold maritime air will be streaming down from Alaska on Monday,” said Matt MacDonald, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

“With that being said, we have a saying in the office: never trust a northwesternly flow. These patterns may change, but this one will bring cold air down into the Lower Mainland.”

MacDonald adds that Vancouver could see some flurries as a result, and that the mountains could see five to 10 centimetres of snowfall. He adds that the weather pattern isn’t the same as the arctic air the region saw near the end of October.

“Some models are showing the system will spread down to northern California, but we will have to stay tuned to find out.”

Tuesday evening’s forecast currently calls for a low of 0°C and a chance of rain showers or flurries.
