A family has launched a campaign in order to raise funds to support their three-year-old son while he undergoes extensive brain surgery.

Born with multiple birth marks on his brain, Isaiah Samms suffers from seizures that have gotten increasingly worse over the past three years. While he was seizure-free for a period of six months with medication, he is having up to six or seven seizures a day now and medication isn't working. On Jan. 3, he will have surgery at the BC Children’s Hospital in order to improve his quality of life.

After the surgery is complete, however, doctors have told the family that recovery could take anywhere from six to 30 days.

"Six days is the absolute best case scenario," Tyson Jackson, Isaiah's father, told Vancouver Is Awesome. "That's if there are no complications or infections."

Even if there are no complications, Jackson and his mother, Nicole Jackson, are taking time off work in order to be with Isaiah during his surgery and recovery. In addition, Jackson has a six-year-old daughter as well as custody of his 14-year-old nephew who's father recently passed away from a fentanyl overdose.

Nicole Jackson launched a gofundme called "Help for Isaiah"  so that Jackson and his girlfriend can be at the hospital with Isaiah while she cares for the other two children at home.

"Grandma will be at home with the other 2 kids trying to keep life as normal as possible," writes Nicole Jackson. "We are hoping to reduce Tyson and Serena's stress by providing the funds necessary for them to take the time to be with our little guy while he recovers."

The campaign has raised $1,830 of its $5,000 goal so far. You can learn more on the gofundme page here.
