After threat of closure, the Canada Post office in Steveston’s Museum will remain open for business, thanks to a three-party agreement between the city, Steveston Historical Society and Tourism Richmond.

“Keeping the historic Steveston Post Office operational as an information hub in the centre of the village is important to the Society,” said Steveston Historical Society chair, Linda Barnes in a press release. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the city and Tourism Richmond to welcome both visitors and locals.”

Under the new agreement, the Steveston Historical Society will operate the post office as of May 1. Sharing a space in a 1905 building, the post office has been a popular neighbourhood stop for locals and visitors for more than 40 years, and is a legacy of Steveston’s first post office in the village.

“We are pleased with this arrangement,” said Bruce Okabe, chief executive officer of Tourism Richmond in a press release. “The new agreement allows for the Steveston Historical Society to extend its contract with Canada Post and assume daily operations alongside our destination experts who provide guests from around the world with services in our visitor centre within the Steveston Museum.”

Visitors can stop by the post office on Mondays to Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
