Originally slated to reopen over Labour Day weekend following months of repair work, the beloved White Rock pier opens Tuesday.
The City of Surrey made an announcement on its Facebook page on Monday, stating that the pier would be open to the public at 11 a.m. Originally, it had planned to open the pier for public use on Aug. 31.
The official reopening of the pier will take place on Sept. 21.
In December 2018, powerful winds cut the 470-metre-long pier in half during a massive storm. One person was stranded on one side of the pier and crews were sent in to rescue him.
While the pier will open today, the replacement arch and light fixtures will be installed after the pier is open. According to a White Rock city council report, the replacement arch and the light fixtures will likely be installed in late-October.
