Major B.C. highway closes due to avalanche risk, 50 cm of snowfall expected

On Wednesday, Jan. 2, Environment Canada warned that a major winter storm would hit some major B.C. highways as an intense Pacific frontal system moved across the south.

Environment Canada advises that snowfall will continue through today and tonight with snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm and up to 50 cm at Rogers Pass.

As a result of the weather in the mountains, driving conditions may suddenly become hazardous. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
