Man accused of East Vancouver sexual assault out on bail

A man accused of a violent sexual assault in East Vancouver in May has been released on bail but must follow several conditions imposed by a provincial court judge.

Choe Wing Ma is accused of following the victim, a woman in her 20s, home from an East Vancouver bus stop May 23. He then allegedly followed her into her home where he attacked and sexually assaulted her around noon.

Ma has been released on a $100,000 bond and must follow 13 bail conditions.

He must keep the peace and be on good behaviour while reporting to a bail supervisor in Vancouver. He must keep the same phone number and not change it without written permission.

He cannot possess any weapons and only have a knife for eating.

Ma may not leave B.C. and must surrender all travel documents while on house arrest. He may only leave while under under the supervision of four individuals for court, medical or legal appointments. He will also wear an ankle monitor and must not come within 500 metres of an individual.

The name of the victim is protected under a publication ban.

Ma is set to appear in court at 9 a.m. July 15 to fix a further date.
