Police arrested a man yesterday in connection with the killing of a baby goose.

A 25-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record that includes charges for fraud, drugs and procuring a person for prostitution has been charged in connection with the killing of a baby goose near Science World in May.

Trevor Glenn Beaton is facing a charge of causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal after police arrested him Wednesday. Court records indicate the charge relates to a May 27 incident in which he allegedly killed a gosling in front of passers-by in the early evening near Science World.

The incident was not publicized by police at the time. But a report in May posted on online publication, Vancity Buzz, provided details of the incident. People were taking photographs of a mother goose with her goslings when a man grabbed one of the baby geese.

Witnesses yelled at the man to put down the bird. Police said he responded by yelling profanities and making inappropriate gestures. He then went behind a large rock but emerged without the gosling. After he and two other associates walked away, witnesses found the gosling dead behind the rock.
