Well, we didn’t get a white Christmas in Metro Vancouver this year, but there’s a chance we could have a bit of a white New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Environment Canada’s forecast for the evening of Dec. 31 and the morning of Jan. 1 currently includes a 30 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries in the area.

It’s a slim chance, but a chance nonetheless.

Considering how many revellers will likely be out and about to celebrate the changing of the calendar tonight in Vancouver, planning safe transportation will be key, particularly with the threat of inclement weather. One option is to make use of the free transit being offered on all TransLink bus and SkyTrain lines, which kicks in at 5 p.m. and lasts until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The low tonight is going to be a chilly 1C in Vancouver, with temps only expected to reach 4C Monday and Tuesday. The possibility of wet snow returns to the forecast after a generally rainy week on Saturday, with a 60 per cent chance of rain and snow flurries that night.
