The Pattullo Bridge - which opened in 1937 - will be replaced, with construction expected to begin in summer 2019.

As work continues secure all approvals for the Pattullo Bridge replacement project, some closures for construction are coming soon.

According to a tweet by TransLink, transit riders are being warned about two sets of bridge closures.

The first closures are southbound lanes from July 28-29, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The second closures are northbound lanes from July 30 to Aug. 2, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Detours for bus route N19 will be in effect.

The work is construction and an annual deck inspection, according to TransLink.

The province has proposed a four-lane bridge to replace the existing Pattullo Bridge. The new bridge would cross the Fraser River and be constructed about 100 metres upstream of, and roughly parallel to, the existing bridge location that connects the two cities.

The new bridge will feature dedicated pedestrian and cyclist lanes separated from traffic by a barrier on both sides of the bridge. It is expected to open in 2023.

The province estimates construction of the new bridge and demolition of the old bridge will create 3,935 person years of direct employment in B.C. over five years of construction, with $1.1 billion in project expenditures, contributing $353 million to B.C.'s gross domestic product.
