A man murdered on the seawall has been identified as Lubomir Kunik, a 61-year-old Vancouver resident.

Kunik, who is also known as Lubo, was discovered by a passerby walking his dog near 11:30 p.m. Feb. 1 near the Second Beach Pool. He had been stabbed and died where he lay.

An extensive search ensued as police and the marine unit closed a portion of the seawall and Stanley Park to investigate the violent crime, which is Vancouver's second homicide of the year.

A man was taken into custody but has not yet been identified as a suspect, according to police.

The major crimes unit of the Vancouver police department is asking to speak with anyone who knew Kunik or who spoke to him in the hours and days before his death.

Police are also asking for anyone who was on the Stanley Park seawall between English Bay and Prospect Point on the night of Feb. 1 between 8 and 11 p.m., to call detectives at 604-717-2500.

Anyone with information about this crime can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
