The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved second-degree murder charges against Nicholas Dwayne Wallace for his alleged connection to the death of 87-year-old East Vancouver resident Elizabeth Poulin.

Second-degree murder charges have been filed against a Surrey resident in connection to the death of an 87-year-old East Vancouver woman.

Surrey resident Nicholas Dwayne Wallace, 23, was charged Tuesday morning for his alleged involvement in the death of Elizabeth Poulin, who was found dead in her Kingsway apartment on Nov. 24.

Wallace was arrested two days later in Surrey.

“Our detectives and our investigators in this case worked diligently around the clock — this was a priority for us,” said Vancouver Police Department Sgt. Jason Robillard.

Robillard said the suspect and victim were not known to one another, adding Wallace “has had previous contact with the police prior to this.”

Someone with the same name as Wallace has faced charges of break and enter in Chilliwack dating back to 2016.

Robillard wouldn’t comment on if investigators found any signs of forced entry or break in, or if similar crimes occurred in the same neighbourhood around the time of Poulin's death.

“Our investigators are looking at all possibilities in this case, it’s still under investigation,” Robillard said.

Poulin’s death was Vancouver’s 15th homicide of the year.
