A small plane has gone missing on its way to Chilliwack.

Search and Rescue has been looking along Highway 5 for a plane that was due to land in Chilliwack Friday (Sept 14).

According to a social media update, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (Pacific) was notified yesterday that a small private plane travelling from Edmonton was "long overdue." The plane had two passengers on board.

A CC-130 Hercules aircraft and a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter searched for the plane yesterday. Today (Sept. 15), the search was expanded to include seven aircraft from the Civil Aviation Search And Rescue Association.

According to the post, "a low ceiling in some parts of the search area is creating a challenge to the search."

The search is taking place along the highway corridor from Chilliwack all the way up to Valemount, so if you see SAR in the sky around town, that's likely why.
