Downtown Vancouver drivers should be prepared for detours Saturday, April 21  as the 100 block of Davie Street will be closed for St. George’s Day weekend celebrations.

The street will be closed between Pacific Boulevard and the Urban Fare underground parking lot entrance between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The parking lot will still be accessible from Marinaside. Drake Street and Marinaside Crescent will stay open.

St. George’s day, which technically falls on April 23, is a British celebration for England’s patron saint. Legend has it St. George was a Roman soldier who slayed a dragon in the fourth century A.D.

This year’s Vancouver celebrations, sponsored by the Royal Society of St. George’s British Columbia branch, will include folk dancing, Irish pipes and drums and highland games.
