A Vancouver man is facing murder charges after a man was found dead Monday in a Downtown Eastside apartment.

Vancouver police spokesperson Const. Jason Doucette said police were called to the residence on Princess Avenue near Alexander Street at around 3 p.m. Monday. He said officers were responding to a report of a sudden death, which looked suspicious, and called in detectives from the department’s major crime section.

“Officers quickly identified and arrested a suspect in the case,” he said.

Randall Whitworth Hill, 34, was arrested and stands charged with one count of second degree murder. He remains in custody.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Roscoe Henry Carmack. The death marks the city’s 13th homicide of the year, surpassing last year’s total of 12.

Anyone who may have information about the homicide is asked to call detectives at 604-717-2500 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
