With Swoop airlines offering flights to Las Vegas for as low as $99 one way, travellers no longer have to cross the border in search of cheap flights.

WestJet’s low-cost carrier announced this week it’s expanding its routes from Canada to include Las Vegas, Mesa (Phoenix), Tampa Bay, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. The move makes it Canada’s first low-cost carrier to enter the U.S. market. The schedule includes flights from Edmonton to Las Vegas and Mesa; Hamilton to Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa Bay; and Abbotsford to Las Vegas.

"Our immediate success in Canada shows us travellers want more Swoop," said Steven Greenway, president of Swoop in a press release. "Canadians have been waiting for ultra-low-cost fares into the U.S. for years and we are proud to be the airline to make it happen. There has been a lot of interest in our plans for the remaining three aircraft we receive this year and revealing this schedule today is a proud moment for the whole Swoop team."

Swoop has been vocal about its intention to win over the estimated five million Canadians who drive across the border each year to take advantage of American ultra-low-cost carriers, such as Allegiant out of Bellingham. This new winter schedule was designed to attract sun seekers. When Swoop launched in June, initial one-way flights started at $49 plus tax included from Abbotsford to Winnipeg, $129 between Hamilton and Abbotsford and $99 between Hamilton and Halifax.

The new flights are available for booking for travel from Oct. 11, 2018 to April 27, 2019 and an online seat sale is ongoing.
