With thousands expected to attend the Global Climate Strike at city hall, people from across Metro Vancouver have been making their way to 12th and Cambie over the past few hours.
Slated to begin at 1 p.m., the event is organized by the Sustainabiliteens — a group of teens from across Metro Vancouver who are part of the international #fridaysforfuture and #climatestrike movement, inspired by Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg.
After a number of speeches, the rally will then march from city hall across the Cambie Bridge at 2:20 p.m. to the downtown branch of the Vancouver Public Library at West Georgia and Hamilton Streets.
In a tweet, the Vancouver Police Department said to expect traffic disruptions during this afternoon’s march and to use alternative routes of transportation.
