Here are three careers you might not have thought of…

1. Mascot mayhem

If you knew there’s a business in Vancouver devoted to mascot training, consider yourself in the minority.

Oui Entertain Events specializes in event planning for malls, banks, hospitals and more. Part of their business model includes mascot training. To that end, mascot training courses are offered to would-be Fins and Phillie Fanatics alike.

“On training day, trainees will dress up in our costumes and learn the skill that is character performing, costume care and in-costume safety,” the company’s website suggests. “They’ll also learn the role of a mascot minder which includes crowd control, costume handling and character safety.”

2. Going to pot

Pot legalization will become a realization this summer if Prime Justin Trudeau follows through on a pledge made in early March.

Get a lead on your weed with Kwantlen University’s Cannabis Professional Series, which provides an intro to plant production, facility management, regulations, marketing and more.

The course is delivered entirely online, so you don’t have to go too far out, man.

Find info online at kpu.ca.

3. Become a celebrant

The B.C. Funeral Association is sponsoring a three-day event on becoming a certified celebrant from April 30 to May 2.

According to the association, the three-day course trains attendees on how to “provide unique and personalized funerals” for families opting for a non-traditional, religious-based funeral.

“A successful celebrant is one who enjoys working with people, has writing and public speaking ability as well as listening and consulting skills,” the association notes.

The course is being held at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna.
