Top 5 things to do this Monday in Vancouver

March 16, 2015

Get foggy: Toronto’s Foggy Hogtown Boys hit the ANZA Club tonight with bluegrass tunes from their new album Animals, Insects, and People.

Meet Burr: Alex Burrows would probably much rather be playing hockey, ideally on the Sedin line, than meeting and greeting Canucks fans at the London Drugs outlet at the corner of Granville and Georgia today but then again maybe not. You can ask him yourself when one of the world’s best ball hockey players is on-hand today signing autographs inside the store beginning at 4 p.m.

Get your Irish on: If you’re the type of person who believes it’s never too early to start celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, the be sure to stop on by the Blarney Stone tonight at midnight for St. Patrick’s Day Eve shenanigans sponsored by Shocktop Belgian Ale. Because nothing says Ireland like a good Belgian ale.

Get down on the corner: As part of their ongoing Monday night spotlight on historic B.C. films, the Cinematheque are screening director Nathaniel Geary’s 2003 feature film On the Corner set on the streets of the Downtown Eastside. Fresh off a northern reserve, a teenaged boy (Simon Baker) seeks out his runaway older sister (Alex Rice) who has become a heroin addict and sex-trade worker and tries to get her to return home. Geary will be on hand for a Q&A and the 7 p.m. show begins with the short films Canadian Pacific and Saint Pierre.

Get prepared: Columbia University professor Adam Sobel, the author of  Storm Surge: Hurricane Sandy, Our Changing Climate and Extreme Weather of the Past and Future, gives a talk tonight about climate change and what we can do the prepare for the devastation it is predicted to soon cause in coastal cities.
