TransLink is warning passengers to prepare for snowy conditions.

TransLink is encouraging riders to consult its online Trip Planner as snow begins to fall in the Lower Mainland.

The transit authority notes that transit is a popular choice on snowy days, and therefore buses and SkyTrains face additional crowding. What’s more, snow and ice may cause service disruptions, so riders need to allow for additional travel time.

While it hasn’t posted any alerts yet, snowfall is expected to continue overnight. As a result, conditions may worsen and service may be interrupted or delayed. Riders are encouraged to allow for plenty of extra travel time and to be courteous of their fellow passengers during the poor weather.

The transit authority also notes that riders should dress appropriately for the cold, damp weather and wear appropriate footwear. They are also advised to practice caution and avoid running for buses, as well as to use handrails and watch out for icy patches.
