Two men are dead after they were shot on Thursday night.

Vancouver police responded to a call of shots being fired in the area of East 31st Avenue and Inversess around 9:30 p.m. on March 9. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle on East 31st Avenue near Ross Street that contained two men who had been shot.

"The car appears to have come to a stop on East 31st near Ross, after hitting another vehicle," says Vancouver Police Department Staff Sgt. Randy Fincham. He was unable to provide more details yet, such as whether the men were shot in the car.

A 49-year-old Vancouver man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant of the vehicle, a 32-year-old Vancouver man, was taken to hospital in critical condition. He died early this morning. On Friday afternoon he was identified as Navdip Singh Sanghera. The name of the older man has not been released pending notification of his family.

They are Vancouver's fifth and sixth homicide victims in 2017.

The Vancouver Police Major Crime Section and Gang Crime Unit are expected to be there throughout the day.
