If you’re thinking of heading to, or from, the North Shore on the SeaBus Saturday afternoon, you might be in for a longer than usual wait.
TransLink announced this morning that it is expecting the cancellation of 20 SeaBus sailings due to union job action. The transit authority had to cancel 14 SeaBus sailings on Friday, the day Unifor union workers launched the first phase of job action.
After serving strike notice earlier in the week, Unifor, which represents bus operators and transit maintenance workers, launched strike action at 8 a.m. Friday with operators not wearing their Coast Mountain Bus Company uniforms and maintenance workers refusing overtime.
The 20 cancelled sailings Saturday amounts to 10 round trips.
Starting at 4:15 p.m. sailings will be reduced to every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, until 9:15 p.m. After that, regular 30-minute service will continue.
The transit authority has been posting regular service updates to Twitter and online.
SeaBus is cancelling 10 round trips from 4:15 PM to 9:15 PM today. Expect 30 min service starting in later afternoon. Consider alternative routes.

So far, the SeaBus is the only service being affected by the strike but more disruptions could be on the horizon.
“It is difficult to precisely predict impacts on the bus network, but we will update transit alerts as any cancellations occur,” Ben Murphy, TransLink senior media relations advisor, said in an email. “We will provide an update on any further SeaBus changes tomorrow.”
