Vancouver police is asking drivers to avoid Beach Avenue as officers attempt to negotiate with a man who fled following an incident early Wednesday morning.
At around 4 a.m. officers were called to a disturbance at an apartment building on Hornby Street near Drake. A man fled as officers arrived on scene, allegedly leaving a firearm behind. Police were able to track the man to a residence in the 900-block of Beach Avenue.
Vancouver police negotiators, the emergency response team and other first responders are currently on scene attempting to arrest the man.
According to a police statement, officers have secured the area where the man is believed to be and are currently seeking a warrant to enter the residence and take him into custody. Police say there is no risk to the public.
UPDATE
At 3:30 p.m. Vancouver police tweeted that there had been no change in the situation and advised that motorists should plan an alternate home.
