Police say incident initially called in as break and enter in progress

Delta police are on the scene of a multi-vehicle accident along 56th Street near the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall Monday afternoon that appears to have also involved a dramatic police takedown of a possible suspect.

Information is still being confirmed by DPD, but citizens on the Tsawwassen Loop Facebook group have said a suspect driving a moving van allegedly smashed into several vehicles, with the driver exiting the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

The suspect then allegedly tried to steal another vehicle, but was caught by several witnesses and held until police arrived and arrested the suspect.

DPD public affairs coordinator Cris Leykauf said details are not clear yet as officers are busy dealing with the situation.

“All I can say at this point is that this originally came in to us as a break and enter in progress,” said Leykauf in an email to the Optimist just after 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The Delta Optimist will continue to follow this story and report new information as it becomes available.
