A Vancouver man is in custody following an assault in a West End apartment building over the weekend.

Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a woman reported that a man followed her into an apartment building on Bute near Pendrell and attacked her.

Later on Saturday, Vancouver police released images taken from security footage of a “person-of-interest” in the attack, asking the public to help identify the man.

“Tips for the public were crucial in helping identify the suspect,” media relations officer Sgt. Jason Robillard said in a press release. “The suspect’s identity cannot be released until charges have been approved by Crown counsel.”

Police announced Tuesday afternoon that a 34-year-old Vancouver man had been arrested and was being held in police custody.

Robillard said investigators anticipate the suspect could face charges of sexual assault and robbery.
