Vancouver police are investigating the city’s second pedestrian death of the year after a woman was hit and killed in Strathcona Thursday afternoon.

At around 2:30 p.m., a woman in her 60s was crossing the street at Powell Street and Jackson Avenue when she was struck by a cement truck. Paramedics responded but were unable to revive the woman and she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. Speed and alcohol are not believed to been factors in the crash.

Vancouver police collision investigators are collecting evidence at the intersection. Anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the areas the time of the crash, or anyone who may have witnesses the collision, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.
