Vancouver police are investigating a collision Tuesday morning that claimed the life of an elderly woman.

Vancouver police are investigating a collision Tuesday morning that claimed the life of an elderly woman.

At around 10:15 a.m., a woman in her 70s was crossing East Hastings Street at Commercial Drive when she was struck by a red pick-up truck. Police said the truck appeared to be heading south on Commerical and collided with the pedestrian as the driver was turning east onto Hastings.

The driver, a 50-year-old Vancouver man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Investigators are collecting evidence at the scene and the intersection is currently closed until further notice.

Anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area at the time of the collision, or anyone who may have witnesses the collision, is asked to call police at 604-717-3012.

This is the second pedestrian fatality in the city in 2019.
