Vancouver police have re-issued a plea for witnesses in an attack outside the PNE that left a Surrey man with serious injuries.

Just before 10 pm. on July 15 two men had just left a concert at the PNE Amphitheatre and were walking on the north sidewalk of East Hastings near Windermere Street. The pair briefly stopped to check on the well-being of a young woman that appeared to be intoxicated.

The woman said she was fine and the two men kept walking. Seconds later they were confronted by an agitated man who had been walking behind the woman. He allegedly ran toward the two men and deliberately pushed one of them into traffic on East Hastings. The victim, a 37-year-old Surrey man, was struck and driven over by a white SUV that was heading west on East Hastings.

The suspect and the woman ran away before officers arrived a few minutes later.

The suspect is described as Caucasian man in his mid-20s between six-feet and 6’2” tall with a heavy, athletic build. He has short dark hair, dark stubble on his face and was wearing a black crew-neck T-shirt and shorts.

“We’re re-releasing the information because we want additional witnesses to come forward,” media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette said Wednesday. “A bit of time has passed and we’re asking that if you are sitting on information, you assume that we received info from other witnesses who were in the area, we have spoken to some witnesses, we believe there are others out there and we’re asking them to come forward. And we’re also asking the person in the video, or the person described here, to do the right thing and come forward as well. As of right now we only have one side of the story and we have the video, we’d really like to hear your side of the story.”
